How De Gea considered retirement over Ten Hag treatment

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea contemplated retirement after feeling mistreated by Erik ten Hag.

De Gea departed from Manchester United at the conclusion of the 2022/23 season, having spent over ten years at Old Trafford.

Although the Red Devils offered him a contract extension, its terms were not acceptable to the Spaniard, leading him to leave the club.

Since then, he has remained a free agent despite receiving offers from Spain and the Saudi Pro League.

According to The Athletic, the 33-year-old briefly considered retirement after his exit from the English giants, feeling hurt by Erik ten Hag’s treatment of him.

In private conversations, the player reportedly indicated that the manager and then-football director John Murtough were responsible for his departure from his cherished team, and he would consider returning if the duo left.

However, the goalkeeper soon reconsidered and has been training diligently for a comeback.

The former Atletico Madrid star recently posted a cryptic message on social media, leaving his followers speculating, and is now being linked with a move to the MLS.

The experienced player is expected to make an announcement about his future in the coming weeks amid interest from America, Saudi Arabia, and his homeland Spain.
