Frenkie De Jong has remained tight-lipped over his possible move to Manchester United but saw the funny side when asked if he is leaving Barcelona for a colder climate.
The Netherlands international is one of Erik Ten Hag’s main transfer targets for the summer window and United have seen their opening offer rejected by Barcelona.
United bid €60 million (£51m) plus another €10m (£8.5m) in add-ons but Barca, who are open to selling De Jong, are demanding a fee around €85m (£72.6m).
Teg Hag must also convince De Jong to join the Red Devils without the prospect of playing Champions League football next season.
De Jong was asked about his future again after Netherlands’ 2-2 draw with Poland on Saturday.
And when asked if he is swapping the beaches in Catalunya for the cold in Manchester, De Jong laughed at the question before replying: ‘No… I can’t say anything.’
Speaking last week, De Jong made it clear that his preference would be to remain at Camp Nou.
‘I prefer to stay with Barcelona,’ De Jong told ESPN. ‘Barcelona is just my dream club. Also from a young age. I just said it too.
‘I’ve never regretted my choice despite the fact that I had hoped for more in terms of prizes than I’ve achieved so far. But I have never regretted my choice.’
