Sky reporter Florian Plettenberg reports that Bayern is asking for at least £42m (€50m) plus additional bonus payments, and the Dutch international is eager to join Old Trafford.
After Raphael Varane’s departure from United, Erik ten Hag’s team is seeking a new center-back.
Signing the former Ajax player would be a significant acquisition for the Red Devils, who are reportedly surprised by Bayern’s willingness to let him go.
Ten Hag, who previously worked with De Ligt at Ajax, would likely welcome reuniting with the 6ft 2in defender.
De Ligt made his debut at Ajax as a 17-year-old in 2016 and quickly became one of the world’s most highly-regarded young center-backs.
His impressive performance led to a £72.5m ($92m) move to Juventus three years later, before he joined Bayern in 2022 for £68m ($86m).
As talks about his future progress, De Ligt is currently in Germany with the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.
The defender has been benched against Romania, with Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij starting instead.
