West Ham midfielder Declan Rice has conceded he would love to partner up with his childhood friend Mason Mount at club level amid rumours linking him with a transfer to Chelsea.

According to reports, the Blues are considering making an offer for the England player, who has impressed for West Ham since breaking into the first team last campaign.

“But obviously you never know because of different paths and things like that.”

Rice and Mount were in contention to make Gareth Southgate’s England team for Euro 2020 before it was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

And the 21-year-old was in no doubt that the England team would have prospered at the tournament.

Asked how he thought England would have done well by Rio Ferdinand, Rice said: “I think so, 100%. ‘I think obviously there is always the expectation from people on social media and a lot of people talking.

“But I think it would be a disappointment with this euros that was supposed to have gone if we didn’t try and go all the way.”
