It was revealed that Valentina stayed in London and did not return to Argentina with their two children.
Fans speculated that the couple might be rekindling their relationship when the 24-year-old posted a picture of two coffee cups on Instagram.
According to Argentine journalist Daniel Fava, Fernandez discovered that one of his Argentina teammates had tried to seduce his former wife and the mother of his two children.
Fava said on TV show A la tarde: “In the last few hours there’s been a reconciliation with his ex-wifeValentina Cervantes. They’re giving things another go.”
He added: “The information I have is that Enzo Fernandez is desperately trying to win her back because he’s heard that a fellow world champion is sniffing around her.”
But, the Argentine reporter offered no further insight about who the player is, or whether he even knew their identity.
Fava was interjected by a colleague who asked whether Fernandez preferred to get back with her rather than see her with another man. He said: “Today she’s prettier than ever.
“Since the separation she has gained a new sex appeal and energy” before making a second major claim that “more than one footballer” had contacted her over social media since the split.
Argentine journalist Pepe Ochoa shared on the TV programme LAM that the couple was observed displaying affection towards each other during a visit to Selfridges. He asserted that they had decided to rekindle their relationship and give their love another shot.
“The reconciliation was in London. They are giving love a second chance,” Ochoa said. “They were in Selfridges and went to buy things in Prada.
“A friend of mine saw them. They were holding hands and there was a kiss. He was with his dad and his youngest child. When people started to recognise them, she went one way and he stayed inside.”
Valentina announced in October that their relationship had ended, writing on Instagram: “With Enzo, today we decided to put space between us.
“But we will always be family and we will support each other in everything because there are two children in the middle who need a lot of our love for them.
“I know the person and the excellent father that Enzo is, and the heart he has and with that, I’m satisfied. Don’t try to create wars where there are none.”
