Enzo Maresca reveals Chelsea plan for Marc Guiu

Enzo Maresca states that Chelsea intend to retain Marc Guiu in the first-team squad this season.

The 18-year-old forward joined Chelsea in a £5 million transfer from Barcelona at the beginning of the month.

Guiu made his first-team debut for Barcelona last season, netting two goals in seven matches.

However, due to intense competition for a spot in Barca’s attack, he spent more time with Barcelona B, where he scored six goals in 17 appearances.

Guiu is currently with Chelsea’s squad on their pre-season tour of the United States and has played in both the 2-2 draw with Wrexham and the 4-1 loss to Celtic on Saturday.

Many expected Chelsea to loan out Guiu, but Maresca insists that a decision regarding the Spaniard is yet to be finalized.

‘The idea with Marc, with all the young players, is to have a look now during the pre-season and then to make a decision altogether,’ Maresca said.

‘I think Marc is doing well and he’s one of the guys in this moment who is going to stay with us and not going to go somewhere.’

Maresca also declined to confirm that Chelsea are close to signing Boca Juniors centre-back Aaron Anselmino and Villarreal goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen but acknowledged both players are ‘very good.’

‘No, the only thing I can say is they are still Boca Juniors player and Villarreal players,’ Maresca said.

‘The moment they arrive, we will make some comment but at this moment, they are still not our player, so we will see.

‘I know both of them. And both of them are very good.’
