Rio Ferdinand names the four players Man Utd should sell this summer

Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand has identified four players that the club should consider selling during the upcoming summer transfer window.

He also expressed concerns about the future of players like Marcus Rashford and Casemiro.

Despite a challenging season in the Premier League, United managed to secure a notable win against Manchester City, ending their year on a high note.

The club’s leadership, after evaluating potential managers such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel, and Thomas Frank, has decided to extend Erik ten Hag’s contract for another year.

With the managerial situation now resolved, United can focus on their transfer strategy with more clarity. It appears that missing out on Champions League qualification will result in a limited budget for new signings, which is expected to be supplemented by revenue from player sales.

In an interview with MailSport, Ferdinand revealed that he would approve the sale of four players, including Harry Maguire and Christian Eriksen.

He also pondered over the futures of Antony and Jadon Sancho but concluded that they might be better off playing elsewhere.

‘On the basis of this season’s performances I’d probably let him go,’ said Ferdinand when asked for his verdict on the Brazil international who scored only one Premier League goal last campaign.

On Sancho, who spent a reputation enhancing six month on loan at Dortmund, he added: ‘I think he needs a new start I’d let him go.’

Ferdinand sat on the fence when it came to Marcus Rashford’s situation with the England star at something of a career crossroads.

He said: ‘Interesting one. I think I’d need to talk to Rahsford and just find out where his head’s at and what he wants to do.

‘What’s the reason for the downturn in performances? If I get the right answer I keep him, if I don’t like what I’m hearing I’d let him go.’

Ferdinand was more definitive on the future of Casemiro whose form deteriorated over the course of the last 12 months after a bright start to his Manchester United career.

He added: ‘I’d keep for the experience and hope he has a better season than last season.’
