Ferdinand responds to claim Man Utd have approached Pochettino to replace Solskjaer

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has blasted reports that the club have made contact with Mauricio Pochettino over replacing Solskjaer at the club.

Solskjaer relieved pressure on his position with a win against Everton on Saturday but they remain in 14th place in the Premier League.

But, Ferdinand – who has been linked with a role on the club’s board – has slammed reports that the Argentine has spoken to United about taking over from Solskjaer.

‘Man United needed a huge performance and a result this weekend,’ Ferdinand told the FIVE YouTube channel.

‘The pressure was absolutely on this team and the management, they went out there and produced. In the media, there’s been bit of disrespect to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to be honest.

‘People touting about that Pochettino has been spoken to. I’ve got it from a really, really, really good source that there’s been no conversations and they wouldn’t disrespect Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in that manner. I feel like that should be addressed. We can all say ‘so and so will be good or better’, that’s just part of the game. But to say someone has been spoken to and is coming in imminently, when it’s not true, I think that’s out of order.

‘The man is in the job and his team have found a knack of always pulling a result out when they need it and this was no difference, they were solid.’

Ferdinand believes Bruno Fernandes is now the ‘talisman’ at Old Trafford. ‘The talisman, who I believe is now the leader at Manchester United, Bruno Fernandes, stepped up,’ said Ferdinand.

‘When the time is most important, this guy stands up. he has 31 goal involvements in 33 games. That is outstanding. That is a crazy consistency which this team needs.

‘For him to produce those numbers in a very inconsistent team says it all. After the game he said it doesn’t matter who scores, at the end he could have had a hat-trick but it’s not about that. He wanted to give Cavani that confidence and to get him on that road.

‘So listen, it’s good. It’s a good problem for Solskjaer. Does he stick with Martial or throw Cavani in? These are great problems for Ole. He needed a result, he picked a team for the occasion and they produced the goods.’
