At 30 years old, Fernandes has been one of the few bright spots in an otherwise disappointing season for United, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League after suffering a 1-0 home loss to Wolves on Sunday, April 20. ..Continue Reading
Fernandes began the match on the bench and came on after 60 minutes but struggled to influence the game. He notably squandered a golden opportunity set up by Alejandro Garnacho with just 15 minutes remaining.
Still, Fernandes wasn’t the only one who failed to convert chances. Fans were also quick to criticize 22-year-old Hojlund, the Danish striker who has only managed three goals in 28 league appearances this campaign.
Speaking after Sunday’s game, United manager Ruben Amorim said: “I think if you look at the games, we have several players that miss big chances, not just Rasmus.
“Of course, Rasmus, the game is to score goals because he’s a striker, but it’s a team thing. I already said that. Our team should score more goals, it’s not just Rasmus missing chances.”
On Monday, a video of Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves was posted to Ferdinand’s Instagram page.
“Hojlund has got to get hold and the wingers and say, ‘this is what I need when you’re in this position’,” said Ferdinand in the clip.
And supporters were quick to point out that Fernandes liked the video.
One said: “Bruno liked this.” Another added: “The fact that the captain likes this speaks volumes.”
A third explained: “Yeah, Bruno liked this post.”
Ferdinand also explained how he feels Man United’s lack of quality in attack could have a negative impact on 17-year-old Chido Obi-Martin.
“If you’re going to invest in an Obi, who was courted by every club in Europe, every top club wanted him,” added the former defender on ‘Rio Ferdinand Presents’.
“If you are going to invest in him, you need to get your number one striker right.
“He’s going to suffer without a number one striker. He’s not looking at Hojlund with any like, ‘I’m going to learn off you’.”
