Bruno Fernandes has expressed his views on Manchester United’s seasoned goalkeeper, Tom Heaton, during the current negotiations for a new contract.
The 38-year-old, who returned to Old Trafford in 2021 from Aston Villa, is a key figure in the club’s goalkeeping setup.

As Heaton’s contract is set to expire this summer, Manchester United has acknowledged that discussions for a new agreement are in progress.
Concurrently, Heaton is preparing to join the England team for the Euros in Germany this summer. Although he will not be participating in the matches, he will be involved in the training sessions.
Taking to Instagram after the announcement was made, he wrote: “Incredibly honoured to be asked by Gareth to join the squad. To get the call to go to a major tournament, to help in anyway I can and pass on my experience is a proud moment. We have a great squad, I’m excited and can’t wait to join the group.”
His United teammate Fernandes responded to that post, and made it clear how much of a fan he was of the shot-stopper.
The Red Devils skipper said: “Great leaders are always welcome in any place. Congratulations big man.”
Fernandes was not the only Man United star to send Heaton a message of congratulations. Diogo Dalot and Altay Bayindir also reacted, while outgoing coach Benni McCarthy also had good words.
Explaining why Heaton has joined up with the England team, Gareth Southgate said: “I am really pleased Tom has agreed to join us in Germany.
“Experience tells us that a tournament can put a lot of demand on our goalkeeping group led by Martyn Margetson. Tom will play an invaluable role on the training pitch supporting Jordan [Pickford], Aaron [Ramsdale] and Dean [Henderson].
“Off the field as someone we all know well, he will add to the positive environment we are always looking to create. We are grateful to Manchester United for their support in making this happen.”
Heaton has represented England three times, with his debut coming in a friendly match against Australia prior to the Euro 2016 tournament.
He also featured in games against Spain and France, with the latter being his sole appearance as a starter for the national team.
His latest club appearance was for Manchester United in a 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final win over Nottingham Forest in the 2022/23 season.
