Bruno Fernandes sends message to Varane ahead of Man Utd transfer

Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes has welcomed Raphael Varane to the club after the Red Devils announced a £39m agreement with Real Madrid.

The France international is expected to move to Old Trafford in the next 48 hours after United struck a deal with the La Liga club.

Varane is set to become United’s second signing of the summer after the £73m signing of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.

United confirmed the agreement for the Frenchman in a statement which said: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the club has reached agreement with Real Madrid for the transfer of French international defender and World Cup winner, Raphaël Varane, subject to a medical and to player terms being finalised.”

Fernandes returned to United training yesterday after his participation at the European Championships and he was clearly delighted by the news on his first day back.

Taking to Instagram, Fernandes wrote: ‘Fresh new start!! Great to be back with my teammates.

‘And what a way to finish the day… Welcome @raphaelvarane ??????’

Varane’s arrival will take the club’s spending past the £110m mark this summer and they are expected to sign off departures before they can make more signings.

Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier is another player high on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s list but the La Liga team want £30m for the player, with United valuing him at around half of that.

Solskjaer will also want to sign a replacement for Paul Pogba should he depart for Paris Saint-Germain, while Jesse Lingard is another that could raise up to £30m on the open market.
