Although Casemiro gave them an early advantage, Ruben Amorim’s men found themselves trailing shortly after halftime due to strikes from Morgan Gibbs-White and Nicolo Savona. ..Continue Reading
Still, Amad’s brilliant 81st-minute volley salvaged a draw for United in the East Midlands.
Despite dominating possession, United found it difficult to penetrate the compact defensive setup orchestrated by Dyche. They registered 18 attempts on goal, but alarmingly, more than half came from outside the box.
A further issue was their inability to fashion a single clear-cut opportunity. Forest, on the other hand, did and capitalized, highlighting Amorim’s side’s creative struggles against a deep-lying defense.
One player particularly affected was Benjamin Sesko, who found it tough going against Forest’s resolute backline.
It’s far from ideal when your lead striker is left isolated in a match where breaking down a defensive unit is crucial. After a string of strong displays, Sesko barely made an impact at the City Ground.
Remarkably, the Slovenian forward recorded just 21 touches—the fewest among all starters. His lack of involvement likely left Amorim frustrated.
The summer recruit has demonstrated sharp instincts in the box and solid link-up ability, so it’s vital he’s more involved.
Sesko did attempt to influence proceedings, taking three shots—two from inside the area—but none tested Matz Sels.
After a largely quiet outing, United’s number 30 received a 5/10 rating from Steven Railston of the Manchester Evening News.
Railston did acknowledge that he “provided a focal point” for United, though his teammates didn’t utilize him effectively.
While it was a difficult evening for Sesko, another United player endured an even tougher time.
The team’s inability to unlock Forest’s low block was evident in Sesko’s limited role, but he wasn’t alone in his struggles.
United’s attacking efforts were lacking, and Diogo Dalot was among those who underperformed. Operating once again at left wing-back, the Portuguese defender offered little in attack and was shaky at the back, even completing fewer passes than Senne Lammens.
With a towering presence like Sesko in the box, it’s crucial for wing-backs to deliver quality crosses.
Dalot, however, failed to complete a single cross from his two attempts and won just three of his eight defensive duels.
Railston didn’t hold back in his assessment, awarding Dalot a 3/10 and noting he was “exposed at various stages of the contest” against Forest.
He wasn’t alone in his criticism. United content creator Dev Bajwa remarked that their number two has “got to be dropped” by Amorim before the upcoming clash at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Thomas Frank’s Spurs.
Post-match, Amorim acknowledged Dalot’s crossing limitations, attributing them to the fact that “he’s a right-footer.” Given his struggles in this fixture, a change could be on the cards.
Amorim has alternatives. Patrick Dorgu, signed specifically for the left wing-back role, is one option. Another possibility is pushing Luke Shaw further forward, with Ayden Heaven or Harry Maguire slotting into the backline, though this seems less probable.
All things considered, it’s understandable why Dalot may be rotated out for the Spurs match. A natural left-footer could provide better balance as United aim to return to winning ways.
