This setback leaves Manchester United in 13th place in the Premier League, eight points adrift of the top four. Fortunately, Amorim has the chance to strengthen his squad when the transfer window opens next month.
Several players have already been linked to a move to Old Trafford, while some current squad members may be on their way out. Here’s the latest update:
Sixteen-year-old Emmanuel Ziro has officially signed with Manchester United. The promising talent arrives from the London-based Cre8tive Football Academy.
Confirming his move on Instagram, he wrote: “Firstly, I would like to thank my family for all their love, support and encouragement throughout the years. For as long as I can remember I’ve had a ball at my feet and enjoy the game of football.
“I now have the opportunity to continue doing that at the biggest club in the world, as well as the team I support. I look forward to continuing my journey playing for Manchester United and would like to thank everyone that has contributed to my development up until now especially @cre8tive.football. You guys are my family and I thank you for everything you have done for me up.”
Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres has hinted he wants to follow in the footsteps of two United legends. The Swede continues to be strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford.
“The players I looked up to were Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo,” Gyokeres told UEFA.com when he was asked who his idols were growing up ahead of Sporting’s upcoming game against Club Brugge in the Champions League.
“It’s about how they performed on the pitch, they went the extra mile which impressed me. I wanted to do similar things on the pitch.”
In addition to strengthening their attack, Manchester United may look to bolster their defense. The club is reportedly in the market for a left-back, with Theo Hernandez emerging as a potential target.
According to CalcioMercato, AC Milan has reduced their asking price for the defender. While they initially demanded €80m (£66.1m), they are now willing to consider offers in the region of €50m (£41.3m).
Hernandez’s current contract with Milan expires in 18 months, and the club has faced challenges in convincing him to sign a renewal.
