First player Arne Slot wants Liverpool to sign revealed

Arne Slot is poised to take the helm at Liverpool, and it’s anticipated that he’ll bring some of his Feyenoord players with him to Anfield.

Slot is keen on making Feyenoord’s Mats Wieffer his first acquisition as Liverpool’s manager.

The names Lutsharel Geertruida and David Hancko have surfaced as prospective recruits for Liverpool, with yet another teammate now joining the list of candidates.

Graeme Bailey of HITC reports that Wieffer, a favorite of his coach and under observation by Liverpool scouts for a year, could be a key addition.

According to Sport, the defensive midfielder is available for a modest fee of €25m-€30m (£21.4m-£25.7m), a bargain for Liverpool.

Slot has lauded Wieffer in Voetbal International, suggesting he has the makings of the world’s finest player, underscoring the high regard the incoming Liverpool manager has for the 24-year-old.

Data from FBref indicates Wieffer excels in aerial duels among Europe’s top leagues, with an average of 3.05 per game, ranking him in the 98th percentile.

Wieffer, who shares versatility with Alexis Mac Allister, is primarily a defensive midfielder but can also play further up, as noted by Transfermarkt.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Wieffer offers a younger and more commanding presence in the defensive midfield than Wataru Endo, and his asking price is quite attractive.

As a nine-time Dutch international, Wieffer is likely to be a top transfer target for Slot, marking a significant first transfer window for both the incoming head coach and sporting director Richard Hughes at Liverpool.
