The 27-year-old’s future is shaping up to be one of the major storylines of the window, having fallen out of favour under United manager Ruben Amorim. ..Continue Reading
Rashford spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa, who remain interested in a permanent move, but his recent remarks suggest his heart may be set on a move to Spain.
In a candid chat with Spanish YouTuber Javi Ruiz, Rashford expressed admiration for Barcelona and singled out teenage sensation Lamine Yamal for praise, hinting that playing alongside him would be a dream scenario.
If the transfer goes ahead, Flick—who has already shared his views on Rashford’s potential role at Barça—appears ready to welcome the England international into his plans.
“It’s difficult to put into words what [Lamine Yamal] is doing because he’s not supposed to be doing that at 16 or 17. I don’t think we’ve seen that before,” Rashford claimed.
When asked if he would like to play with the Spanish superstar, Rashford suggested that he hopes to join Barcelona soon, replying: “Yes, for sure. Everyone wants to play with the best. Hopefully … we’ll see.”
And it appears that Barcelona are open to the move, as Flick praised the 27-year-old when asked about a move for him or Liverpool’s Luis Diaz in a press conference last month.
Flick said: “[They] are both fantastic players.
“I like them and we’ll see what happens [in the summer transfer window].”
Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed back in May during an interview with RAC1 that the club is interested in signing Marcus Rashford, raising the possibility of a deal being completed in the near future.
Should Rashford make the move to the Nou Camp, he may need to adapt his role on the pitch. According to a report from Yahoo Sports, manager Hansi Flick is considering deploying him as a central striker rather than out wide.
With Nico Williams expected to arrive and join an already stacked wing lineup featuring Raphinha and Lamine Yamal, Rashford could face stiff competition for a spot on the flanks.
As a result, Flick is reportedly eyeing him as a potential successor to veteran forward Robert Lewandowski, who turns 37 in August.
