Phil Foden names Chelsea star as toughest opponent & opens up on chat with Haaland

Manchester City star Phil Foden has named N’Golo Kante as his toughest ever opponent and says the midfielder has been ‘everywhere’ when he’s played against Chelsea.

Foden has been outstanding this season in Pep Guardiola’s star-studded City side, notching up 15 goals and nine assists in all competitions for the Premier League champions.

However, Foden admits he’s found life very difficult versus Kante, who came out on top in their FA Cup semi-final clash at Wembley last month.

The duo will likely be reunited again on May 29 when City play Chelsea for Champions League final at Porto’s Estadio do Dragao.

‘It’s probably the most obvious one but Kante, man!’ he told Sky Sports when asked to reveal his toughest opponent. ‘He’s just everywhere. You think you’ve got away from him and he’s just always by your side so I would probably say him.

‘He does everything, he runs everywhere, he’s such a great player so I’d probably say he’s my toughest opponent I’ve played against. ‘He’s a great player.’

However, the England international says their chat was about the game itself and Haaland failing to hit the target.

‘We were just talking about [the fact] he obviously missed a few chances in that game,’ Foden added.

‘It was just a chat in general about the game and the result so it was nothing too special. ‘A lot of people thought it was about other things but it was just about the game in general.’

On reaching the Champions League final, Foden added: ‘It’s crazy. ‘My mum and dad would always say to me that I’d be playing in a Champions League final one day but they didn’t think it would happen so soon.

‘I’m just hoping they can make the final and hopefully if we win we can celebrate together.

‘I didn’t believe it would happen so soon. I’m only 20, I thought it would have taken longer to reach the top. ‘But I work hard every day to get to the top. I just want to keep going now and keep setting my standards even higher.’
