Rodri’s early goal put City in the lead, but Jhon Duran leveled the score shortly after. Foden reclaimed the lead just before the break and went on to score two more goals in the second half, completing his hat-trick and ensuring a 4-1 triumph for his team.
With this hat-trick, Foden has matched a milestone previously achieved by legends Ronaldo, Frank Lampard, and Didier Drogba.
According to TNT Sports, who wrote on social media: “At just 23 years old, Phil Foden has now scored as many Premier League hat-tricks as Cristiano Ronaldo, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba.”
Throughout the 23/24 season, Phil Foden has impressively tallied 21 goals and provided 10 assists over 44 matches in all competitions for Manchester City.
Speaking to TNT Sports after the game, the 23-year-old attacker said: “I’m loving my football; playing with a smile on my face.
“I’m just trying to help the team because I know I’m capable of scoring goals. Today I showed that. I set myself better than last season. Trying to get more goal contributions. I’m up this year. Doing well.”
Foden added: “I see myself as a technical player in the pockets and out wide I can do that job. But I prefer in the middle. This year I’m growing into the game. The manager spoke about showing rhythm and slowing the game down. I’ve added that to my game as well. Before I was going so quick; attacking every action. Now I’m getting the balance just right.
“I always try and arrive in the box. That’s where the goals are at and you can get at least five a season arriving in the box late. I still have a lot to improve on and I’m still working on that position.”
