Frank Lampard gives injury updates on Abraham, Christensen & Emerson

Chelsea suffered a string of injuries during their 2-1 loss to Liverpool on Sunday in the Premier League as Tammy Abraham, Andreas Christensen and Emerson were all forced off the pitch.

Emerson went down with a hamstring injury in the first 15 minutes of the game, Christensen also seemed to suffer a knee injury just before half time and Abraham struggled before he was taken off for Batshuayi with what looked like a shoulder injury.

Frank Lampard gave the latest on the injuries after the defeat to the Reds, and seemed very positive about Abraham and Christensen, but less about Emerson.

‘He was struggling a little bit at the end, I think it’s what happens with Tammy,’ Lampard told Sky Sports. ‘He’s had a fantastic start to the season and now the levels are “can you get through games?”

‘I’m not saying today because he did get a knock, but he came off against Wolves, after an incredible performance individually, but the thing is with young players especially is “can Tammy get through games?”

‘I’m asking a lot of him and again he’s given his everything as he always does.

‘He’ll be alright, Tammy. It wasn’t a bad chance to try and get Michy [Batshuayi] on the pitch anyway, try and get something different up front.’

When asked how serious his two defenders’ injuries were, Lampard said: ‘I don’t think so. Christensen is not too major..

‘Emerson is a similar injury to what he had, which is disappointing because he had a hamstring injury with the Italian squad two weeks ago.

‘Two or three days ago we’re told he’s fit and we have to rely on that and he comes in and does a very similar, very close injury to what he did. We’ll have to see where he is.’

Lampard was frustrated to lose the game against the Champions League holders, but he was pleased with how his team and how his plan to bring on young players is working.

‘Performance wise we were the better team,’ Lampard said. ‘We had more energy in our game, character and spirit. That’s why the crowd applauded at the end. Let’s take this forward.

‘No home wins we want to change and I believe we will if we play like that. The reality is younger players have come into the team. We lost Eden Hazard, we lost two number 9s we had last year and we can’t change that.

‘People say the ban is a bad thing for Chelsea and in the short term, of course, but in the long term if we can have a vision, with the likes of [Fikayo] Tomori, Mason [Mount], Tammy, then hopefully it will be really good for us but in the short term there might be occasions with things like today happen.’
