Fred confirms United talks and reveals how close he is to a transfer

Shakhtar Donetsk star Fred has confirmed that Manchester United are in talks for his signature this summer.

Fred has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for a while and the Red Devils are reportedly on the brink of landing the 25-year-old ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

The Brazilian dropped a massive hint over moving to United on Instagram and has now broken his silence on negotiations with the Red Devils, as well as Manchester City.

City held discussions with Fred’s representative back in January but it’s understood the League champions are focused on landing Napoli’s Jorginho.

Speaking at a press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Fred said: ‘There have been some advanced talks since January, when I almost went to Man City.

‘Soon after City, United talked to Shakhtar and my agents. And today, if I’m not mistaken, there is very strong interest from United.

‘My head is in the World Cup. My agents are taking care of it. I try to do my work in the field and leave the extra field for Gilberto Silva.

‘My staff are looking at what is best for me. Who knows after the World Cup I can make the best choice for me.’

Earlier this month, Fred said that it was his ‘dream’ to join a major European club.

He told SporTV: ‘I want to make a bigger leap, I made it clear to the club.

‘Now I just have to wait to get through the World Cup and see which is the best destination.

‘I think I have to change a little. I have dreams of playing in major clubs in Europe. I made it clear that it’s my moment.

‘The club are reluctant to release [me]. I have a contract until 2021. As soon as I come back from the World Cup we will sit down, talk and look at the options.’
