Fred arrives for United medical ahead of £52.5m move

Fred is in Manchester to undergo a medical ahead of completing a transfer to Manchester United, according to Sky Sports.

The Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder, who came on as an 82nd-minute substitute in Brazil’s 2-0 friendly victory over Croatia at Anfield on Sunday, is set to become Jose Mourinho’s first signing of this summer.

It was revealed in May that United were in advanced talks to sign the midfielder, who had attracted interest from rival Manchester City in January.

The 25-year-old joined Shakhtar from Internacional in 2013 and has since made over 150 appearances for the Ukrainian club.

After the win over Croatia, Brazil coach Tite conceded he was not surprised by United’s interest in Fred, but wanted the move to be done as quickly as possible ahead of the World Cup.

“When this happens, and it is inevitable, they are going to come to us and our advice to them is resolve this as soon as you can so your head is back with us and focusing on the national team,” Tite said.

Tite later added: “If I was a manager I’d ask to sign him as well.”
