Arsenal’s Gabriel Magalhaes has openly declared his desire to play for Corinthians, the Brazilian team he grew up supporting, stating he would make the move ‘tomorrow’ if possible.
Since joining Arsenal from Lille in 2020 for £27 million, Gabriel has become a cornerstone of the team, missing only two Premier League matches last season.
- Ferguson named the most ‘annoying’ player he faced in 26 years as Man Utd boss
- Kylian Mbappe forced to have Real Madrid shirt number as team-mates block favourites
- De Bruyne named who he would prefer to play with between Ronaldo & Messi
At 26, Gabriel has established an impressive defensive partnership with William Saliba, contributing to Arsenal’s strong defensive record of only 29 goals conceded last season, which is five less than what champions Manchester City allowed.
Having recently celebrated his 150th game for Arsenal, Gabriel looks set to continue his career at the club for the foreseeable future. However, he harbors a personal aspiration to eventually join Corinthians.
His affinity for Corinthians is evident, as he is frequently seen attending their matches and was even captured on video using public transportation to attend a game in Sao Paulo recently.
‘Corinthians, that’s since I was born,’ Gabriel said when discussing his love for the Brazilian team. ‘And today I don’t think it has to be any different.
‘I still go to Corinthians games by train. It’s my dream, I want to play for Corinthians, I want to feel that energy.’
When asked whether he can see himself at Corinthians, Gabriel added: ‘It’s something to think about.
‘Sometimes I stop and think, “Do you dream of playing for Corinthians?” I do. “When would you play for Corinthians?” For me, I’d be at Corinthians tomorrow.
‘I hope it doesn’t take too long because I want to feel the energy of those fans, who are incredible, as soon as possible.’
Gabriel is currently contracted to Arsenal until the summer of 2027 and will look to help the club go one better and finally win the Premier League next campaign after back-to-back second-place finishes.
Mikel Arteta is determined to lead Arsenal to their first Premier League title in over 20 years & says his players ‘want much more’ after two impressive but disappointing title challenges.
‘Every decision we’re going to make is to be better, without losing who we are and everything that is taking us in the position that we are now as a football club, as a team,’ Arteta said earlier this week.
‘The ambition is there. The players, the staff. You can sense it. They want much more. They want to start lifting trophies and that’s the next step.’
