Reports indicated that the 21-year-old joined Chelsea in a transfer valued at £40 million.
Speaking after his arrival, Garnacho said: “I really liked watching Chelsea when I was younger. I have a winning mentality. I have passion and a big personality. It’s a natural fit with a club like Chelsea, which have just won the Club World Cup.”
Since joining Chelsea, he has featured once in the Premier League and once in the Champions League, but is yet to register a goal or assist.
A recent report has offered insight into why Garnacho left United, following a drop in Ruben Amorim’s selection order.
According to The Sun, Amorim wasn’t the only one who tried to help Garnacho revive his United career.
It’s believed that senior figures like Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, and Harry Maguire encouraged Garnacho ‘to start thinking of the team instead of just himself’.
Despite their efforts, the report claims Garnacho ‘didn’t listen’ and Amorim eventually felt he was ‘bringing a negative vibe to the dressing room’.
Though Amorim was ‘looking forward’ to working with Garnacho, he grew ‘tired’ of the player’s ‘moodiness and temper tantrums’.
Ultimately, Amorim decided it was best to move on from Garnacho, and he reportedly has no regrets about the decision.
Garnacho is aiming to be part of the squad on Saturday when Chelsea face United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
Asked about Garnacho’s return, Amorim said: “Garnacho is not our player, I’m focused on our players. I’m really happy with Mason (Mount) and (Matheus) Cunha returning. The rest, talk to the Chelsea manager.”
