Alejandro Garnacho’s six-word response after first Chelsea training session says it all

Alejandro Garnacho admitted he was completely drained after completing his first training session with Chelsea, following his £40 million transfer from Manchester United.

The Argentine winger has jumped straight into preparations at Cobham, but fans hoping for an immediate impact may need to be patient. ..Continue Reading

Garnacho missed out on pre-season at Old Trafford due to his fallout with manager Ruben Amorim, leaving him short on match fitness.

That lack of conditioning was evident during his first workout with the Blues, where he confessed to feeling the physical toll right away.

Speaking to a member of Chelsea media team, Garnacho said: “Can’t move my legs now man.” He added: “I sprinted in the last one.”

Garnacho was left out of the Argentina squad for the current international break so Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca will be hoping that he can build his fitness over the next few weeks.

Explaining what he could bring to the club, the Italian coach said: “When we are looking for a winger, we are looking for someone who is good one-v-one and who can attack and create something.

“Jamie Gittens [signed from Borussia Dortmund this summer] is that profile, and we will see with Garnacho. He is a good winger in one-versus-one and he can create things. This is the way I see things.”

One player who was however called up was Garnacho’s international and now club teammate Enzo Fernandez. And it appears that the midfielder was very keen to see the move done.

“I spoke to Enzo during the summer because he had been asking a lot of times, ‘When are you coming, when are you coming?,” Garnacho said.

“I kept saying that he had to be patient, and we would play together. He texted me when I joined to say congratulations, and I can’t wait to see him and play together. I had to be patient too, but now I can’t wait to get started.”

If Garnacho builds up his fitness as expected, he might be ready to make his Chelsea debut in a little over a week.

The Blues are set to face Brentford away next Saturday, hoping to extend their undefeated run in the Premier League.

However, fans at Stamford Bridge will have to wait a bit longer to see him in action on home turf—Chelsea’s next home fixture isn’t until September 27, when they host Brighton.

Before that, the team hits the road for a tough stretch, including clashes with Bayern Munich in the Champions League, a reunion with Garnacho’s old side Manchester United, and an EFL Cup tie against Lincoln City.
