Olivier Giroud’s agent hits out at Lampard playing Chelsea star ahead of him

Olivier Giroud’s agent, Michael Manuello, says Lampard playing Tammy Abraham ahead of the Frenchman recently is ‘not fair’, given his superb form towards the end of last campaign.

The France international was on fire for Chelsea after coming into the team in February after the ankle injury to Abraham.

Giroud scored a remarkable eight goals in Chelsea’s final 13 league matches of the 2019/20 season, proving his worth to Frank Lampard.

However, he has played only 33 minutes in the Premier League this campaign, with the likes of Abraham and Timo Werner ahead in pecking order at the club. And Giroud’s agent is unhappy with his client’s limited role.

‘You’d be blind not to see that Frank Lampard has decided to put Tammy Abraham ahead of him,’ Manuello told Foot Mercato. ‘It is not frankly fair when you look at what Olivier did at the end of the season. But he has the right, it is his choice.’

Manuello played down rumours that a decision about Giroud’s future has been made, saying that the situation will be dicussed next month ahead of the January transfer window.

‘Things have happened in the last 5 months,’ the agent added. ‘We cannot just look at the last two months and be forgetful about the 3 years that came before it.

‘But we have to be honest and if this continues, we will have to, first and foremost for him, experience other emotions.

‘For now, it’s too soon to know what’s really concrete or not. ‘The interests, the rumours, for me, there’s little interest. We’ll see come mid-December. A January window, before mid-December, is just rumours. We don’t know where clubs will be nor how Olivier will do at Chelsea.

‘We don’t know if there’ll be injuries, and therefore opportunities. So it’s pointless. There’s no real work on that at the moment. We don’t know today, there’s only been eight league games.

‘Between now and January, there’s 11 games for Chelsea to play. Olivier belongs to his club, he’s focused on the competition and we’ll see in mid-December to decide one way or another.’
