Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has hinted at a potential move to international football once his tenure at the Etihad comes to an end.

At 53 years old, Guardiola’s current contract with City extends until 2025, and he has not dismissed the possibility of extending it further.

However, despite his extensive career in club management, he maintains an interest in testing his abilities on the international stage.

While Guardiola has previously been linked with managerial positions in countries such as England, Spain, and the United States, it’s evident that he would be a highly sought-after candidate for most national teams.

Remaining tight-lipped about his preferences regarding which nation he would like to lead, the former Barcelona boss has expressed his aspirations for future challenges beyond his tenure at the Etihad Stadium.

When asked by ESPN Brazil what was left for him to achieve in football, he said: “A national team. I would like to train a national team for a World Cup or a European Championship. I would like that.

“I don’t know who would want me! To work for a national team they have to want you, just like a club.”

Quizzed further, the former Bayern Munich manager explained how despite his successes at club level, he has never set himself a goal of winning a World Cup or Copa America.

“I never thought about it like that [with the goal to win a world Cup],” he added.

“When I started in this I never thought about winning a league title or winning the Champions League. No. I thought, I have a job? OK.

“I would like to have the experience of living through a World Cup, or a Euro or a Copa América, or whatever it is. I would like that.

“I don’t know when that would be, if that is five, 10, 15 years from now but I would like to have the experience of being a manager in a World Cup.”

In December, reports surfaced indicating that the Football Association (FA) had maintained ongoing communication with Guardiola regarding a potential position with the England national team.

Guardiola’s recent remarks imply that he might be open to assuming a role with the Three Lions following the conclusion of his tenure at Manchester City.
