His reputation has skyrocketed thanks to an extraordinary goal-scoring record in Portugal, where he’s netted 97 times over two seasons.
A number of top European sides are monitoring his situation, including Arsenal, Manchester United, and Juventus.
However, Arsenal are currently leading the chase, and Gyokeres has never seriously considered a switch to United.
According to Portuguese outlet A Bola, the 27-year-old wasn’t interested in joining the Red Devils, even after they appointed Ruben Amorim last November.
Amorim had hoped to reunite with Gyokeres at Old Trafford, but the forward was reportedly disappointed by how the manager treated a fellow player.
Meanwhile, Arsenal remain in active talks with Sporting, and Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that negotiations are steadily moving forward.
“I heard that Arsenal and Sporting Lisbon are making progress in negotiations now,” he said.
“There is a good chance to finalise Victor Gyokeres’ deal in the coming days.”
Should Arsenal be unable to finalize an agreement with Sporting CP, Gyokeres may instead consider offers from six other top clubs, as reported by A Bola.
The Swedish striker is attracting interest from elite sides including Manchester City, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, Bayern Munich, and Liverpool.
However, Liverpool’s chances of landing him appear slim due to their ongoing efforts to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
In an interview with France Football, Gyokeres made it clear that his next move will depend on how strongly a club shows its desire to sign him, stating he’ll only join a team that genuinely wants him.
When asked about the next move of his career, he said: “It’s football, you never know. I’m not thinking about it, we’ll see what happens.
“If something is going to happen, it will happen. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.”
