Arsenal’s pursuit of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyökeres is now in serious doubt, as negotiations have hit a major impasse.

What once looked like a deal nearing completion—with Arsenal reportedly offering a five-year contract—has now stalled, according to The Athletic.
Although Gyökeres had also drawn interest from his former manager Rúben Amorim at Manchester United, he made it clear that his priority was a move to the Emirates.
Despite earlier reports from Fabrizio Romano suggesting progress was being made, new updates from Portugal indicate that talks have broken down.
The two clubs remain at odds over the transfer fee, with Arsenal offering £56 million plus £12.9 million in add-ons, while Sporting are holding firm on a guaranteed £60.4 million.
In an effort to help push the deal through, Gyökeres has even agreed to forgo £1.7 million of his salary.
However, due to the deadlock, Portuguese outlet Record reports that Arsenal’s negotiating team has now returned to London, signaling that discussions have come to a halt.
Sporting president Frederico Varandas reiterated last month that the club would not budge on their valuation, and so far, they’ve stayed true to that stance.
He said: “I’m not going to say what the price is, the player knows what it is.
“I can tell you that Viktor won’t leave for €60m plus €10m he won’t, he just won’t”.
