Initially, the 18-year-old was given a yellow card, but it was upgraded to a red after a VAR review.
Following the incident, a photo circulated on social media showing a couple of fans mimicking Lewis-Skelly by recreating Haaland’s signature meditation celebration.
Lewis-Skelly had previously copied Haaland’s celebration after scoring the third goal in Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over City.
According to The Mirror, the image of the two West Ham fans recreating Haaland’s celebration was liked on Instagram by Haaland himself.
After the match, Arsenal manager Arteta expressed his frustration.
He said: “I’m very disappointed, obviously very angry as well. We have to congratulate West Ham for the victory and the game that they played but I think [there was] a lot on our side we never got right.
“We have to be [angry]. I hope we are, very much, because we didn’t hit the levels today and I’m very much responsible, and I am very angry.”
Arteta added: “It’s my responsibility for the team to play much better than it did today. We have to play much better, with much more quality, much more interaction. It’s not good enough, that’s on me.”
