Their recent struggles include a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday, following a loss to Newcastle United in the Premier League last weekend.
Reports now suggest that Arsenal missed out on securing a talented European forward, partially due to Havertz’s presence in the squad.
According to The Daily Mail, Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko was a key target for Arsenal after impressing both last season and during Euro 2024.
However, despite the interest, the 21-year-old forward chose to remain with Leipzig, signing a new contract until 2029.
Sesko reportedly considered the Arsenal move but hesitated, concerned he’d be relegated to a backup role behind Havertz.
Arsenal were ready to activate his £55 million release clause, but his reluctance gave them pause.
With Arsenal unable to assure Sesko of a regular starting spot, he opted to stay where he knew he would play consistently.
Securing Sesko could have been a boost for Arsenal, as the Slovenian has scored seven goals and provided three assists in 14 games this season.
In comparison, Havertz has managed seven goals and one assist in 16 appearances for Arsenal.
Speaking about his decision not to make the Premier League move last summer, Sesko said: “I had a good first year at RB Leipzig and am incredibly happy to be here.
“Team, club, city, fans – the overall package is simply outstanding for me. The early contract extension was therefore the logical next step for me.”
