Kai Havertz ‘regrets’ Chelsea move after choosing Blues over Bayern

Kai Havertz regrets his summer transfer move to Chelsea with the German midfielder having struggled so far in the Premier League, according to reports.

Havertz joined Chelsea from Bayer Leverkusen with fellow Bundesliga side Bayern Munich having also been interested in a deal for the player.

The Germany international has scored just a goal in the Premier League this campaign after completing a transfer believed to be worth up to £90m.

According to SportBILD, the 21-year-old is kicking himself for choosing Chelsea over Bayern. The report claims Havertz is regretting not paying attention to their interest in the summer, instead choosing Chelsea due to the wages offered.

Havertz is currently on a run of seven league matches without a goal or assist, with Chelsea manager Frank Lampard dropping him as a result.

However, Lampard has urged patience over Havertz, saying: “In the modern day, there is going to be criticism for every player of every club who loses a game.

“We should be patient with Havertz from a Chelsea end because he is a top-quality talent who has come into this league.

“He can play in any position across the front three and he has played on the right countless times before he played for Chelsea. “But we have to be patient, particularly with any young player playing in the speed of the Premier League.

“People who want to jump on to criticise (should) just wait and give a young player time. I know the player that Kai Havertz is going to be.”

Chelsea end 2020 sixth on the Premier League table having taken 26 points from their first 16 games of the campaign.
