Herrera responds to claims he spat at Manchester City crest

Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has shrugged off claims that he intentionally spat at Manchester City’s crest at half-time.

Footage showed Herrera spitting on City’s badge as he made his way to the tunnel at the Etihad after goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkuy Gundogan in the first-half.

According to The Telegraph, sources close to City labelled Herrera’s behaviour ‘disrespectful and immature’ after United completed an incredible comeback on Saturday.

However, the Spaniard is ‘humiliated’ at reports that he spat at City’s crest deliberately.

‘Ander has seen the footage of the incident and is mortified at any suggestion that his actions were deliberate,’ a Manchester United spokesperson said.

‘It was entirely accidental and there was no intent whatsoever.’

Herrera has now talked about the half-time team talk that brought the dramatic comeback in the game.

‘Today was not about tactics. At half-time we just talked about the pride, about the club, this club you can never underestimate it,’ he said after the win.

‘We didn’t talk too much about tactics, just about our pride. Our pride on the pitch and that our fans were going to have a difficult night if we got beaten.

‘We did it for them, and of course for us and our position, but overall for them.

Asked to talk about the players which made their voices heard, Herrera said: ‘Everyone.

‘Of course, the oldest guys with the most experience.

‘Ash (Young), Mike (Carrick) was in the dressing room – they have the power in their words, but everyone was talking.’
