Hojlund makes feelings clear on Man Utd signing Sesko as Ruben Amorim drops worrying hint

Manchester United have taken an aggressive approach to revamping their attack this summer, and their pursuit of RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko could push Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee further down the pecking order.

The club has already strengthened its forward line with the arrivals of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford and Matheus Cunha from Wolves, but securing a top-tier striker remains a priority. ..Continue Reading

United are said to be in direct contact with both Sesko’s representatives and Leipzig, reportedly pulling ahead of Newcastle in the race for the Slovenian forward, while cooling interest in Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

Hojlund, who joined from Atalanta for £64 million two years ago, has struggled to deliver consistently, scoring just 14 times in 62 league outings.

However, he made a strong statement midweek by netting the opener in United’s 4-1 pre-season win over Bournemouth in Chicago, and followed it up with a determined media appearance, reaffirming his commitment to fight for his place.

“The most important [thing] for me is just to keep working hard and stay focused and then obviously we’ll see what happens,” Hojlund told reporters.

“My plan is very clear and it’s for me to stay and fight for my spot whatever happens.”

Despite his early goal and purposeful words, Hojlund’s future was not made clearer when Ruben Amorim addressed the media at Soldier Field.

“I’m really happy with Rasmus but I don’t know what is going to happen until the end of the market,” Amorim said in his post-match press conference.

“The important thing is that Rasmus is scoring goals. He’s connecting really well with the team. He’s improving.

“Again, I don’t know what is going to happen until the market is closed. We suffered a lot because of the lack of goals last season.”

Manchester United’s additions of Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha are expected to inject both flair and firepower into their attack this season.

However, the club’s ongoing search for a dependable finisher underscores their need for a striker who consistently converts chances.

Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both fell short of their expected goals (xG) metrics during the 2024–25 campaign, a drop-off from their more clinical performances the previous year.

Benjamin Sesko, though still developing as a player, stands out for his sharpness in front of goal—a quality that’s especially appealing given United’s recent investment in creative forwards.

At just 22, the Slovenian has already netted 27 goals in 64 Bundesliga outings, making him a compelling option to lead the line.
