With this result, Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders have reached 39 points and still hold a game in hand over title contenders Chelsea and Arsenal, who have 35 and 33 points respectively.
Konate, who did not play in the match due to a knee injury, has been absent for Liverpool’s last five league games.
However, the 25-year-old French center-back celebrated the triumph by taking a shot at Arsenal fans who had previously mocked him about his injury.
‘Rivalry aside I hope Konate’s injury is serious,’ one Arsenal fan posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, when the Frenchman picked up his knee issue in November.
A Liverpool supporter responded to that post this weekend, with a picture of Bukayo Saka lying on the Selhurst Park turf and writing: ‘Karma is a b****’.
No-one seemed to enjoy that interaction more than Konate, who suggested that Liverpool fans have more class than Arsenal supporters.
‘We are not like them… [eyes emoji], we wish no harm,’ Konate said about the two X posts. ‘Anyway In Sha Allah big 3 pts today.’
Saka was seen leaving Selhurst Park on crutches after sustaining a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Saturday. Mikel Arteta has since confirmed that Saka will be sidelined for ‘many weeks.’
Given Saka’s significance to the Gunners – with 15 goal involvements in 16 Premier League matches this season – Arteta would prefer to have the Englishman fit and performing at his best.
However, Les Ferdinand believes the timing of Saka’s injury is actually beneficial, as it allows him to rest during the festive period before the second half of the season begins.
‘If there was a perfect time to get injured, it would be now,’ Ferdinand told Sky Sports about Saka’s latest setback. ‘If he was going to be out for any spell, it would be over this Christmas period.’
