When asked to select his all-time favorite Manchester United player, Sir Jim Ratcliffe named a legend.

Ratcliffe shared his thoughts with reporters in Man United’s press room before their Premier League clash with Tottenham on Sunday.

He anticipates the approval of his proposed 25 percent acquisition of the club by the league’s authorities next month.

The owner of Ineos expressed that his minority stake in Manchester United stands out as the most thrilling deal in his entire business career.

Responding to whether this deal was the most exciting he had undertaken, the 71-year-old affirmed, “Correct. Yes,” according to Manchester Evening News.

He added: “I have done a few exciting things, but this caps it all. There’s no question about that. I am very excited to be here.”

Boyhood Manchester United fan Ratcliffe was also pressed on his favourite Red Devils player.

He listed Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes before he eventually settled with: “Eric [Cantona], probably.”

Cantona made the transition from Leeds United to Manchester United in 1992 and had a remarkable five-season tenure at Old Trafford.

During his time with the club, he netted an impressive 82 goals in 185 appearances, endearing himself to fans by leading the Red Devils to four Premier League victories and two FA Cups.

Ratcliffe’s selection of Cantona resonated well with Manchester United supporters on social media. The businessman acknowledged that he had discussions with Erik ten Hag and clarified that the regulatory process prevented him from delving into specifics about his intentions for Manchester United.

“I have met Erik but it would be inappropriate until it is all formalised,” he said, before joking: “We hope they don’t find anything dodgy in our CV.”

His appearance at Old Trafford for United vs. Spurs marks his first match since his proposed purchase as he revealed he won’t be able to come at all times.

“I can’t come all the time because I have some other things,” he added.” But I will come.”
