Joao Felix has already told Chelsea where he wants to play ahead of loan move

Atletico Madrid forward Joao Felix has already revealed where his best position is as Chelsea close in on a loan move for the player.

Despite spending £270m in the summer, Chelsea currently sit in a lowly 10th in the Premier League, ten points behind fourth-placed Manchester United and 19 points behind the leaders Arsenal.

It is not the kind of season they had planned at all and co-owner Todd Boehly is ready to continue to back Graham Potter in the transfer market.

According to to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the West London side have a verbal agreement in place to sign Felix on a loan deal lasting until the end of the campaign.

Chelsea are still trying to negotiate an option to sign Felix permanently at the end of his loan, but talks have reached a point that he has been granted permission to fly to London.

The loan will cost the Blues around £10m with Felix having fallen out of favour at Atletico. The La Liga team paid £113m for Felix in 2019 when they signed him from Benfica.

Felix would improve Potter’s attack and the 23-year-old has already explained which position he believes to be his best.

“My best position is as the second forward,” said Felix, speaking to The Athletic this year. “Playing like a No.10, with a guy in front of me.”

With Kai Havertz and Mason Mount both failing to deliver consistently so far this campaign, the arrival of Felix could see him slot in behind the striker in the club’s plans.

Chelsea have lost six of their last nine matches in all competitions with Boehly hoping the arrivals of David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Badiashile and Felix providing fresh impetus into a poor season already.
