João Pedro’s potential shirt numbers at Chelsea

João Pedro’s arrival at Chelsea from Brighton has generated plenty of excitement among fans, but one question remains unanswered: what shirt number will the Brazilian forward wear at Stamford Bridge?

Pedro, who joined the Blues in a deal worth up to £60 million, has worn a variety of numbers throughout his career. ..Continue Reading

At Brighton, he sported the No. 9 shirt, a number traditionally reserved for a team’s main striker.

However, that option is no longer available at Chelsea, as new signing Liam Delap has already claimed the No. 9 jersey during the Club World Cup.

Before his time at Brighton, Pedro wore No. 10 at Watford, where he became a fan favorite. Unfortunately for him, that number is also taken—Cole Palmer now wears the No. 10 shirt following a recent squad reshuffle.

Pedro’s first number at Watford, No. 17, is currently held by fellow Brazilian Andrey Santos, and No. 23, which he wore as a teenager at Fluminense, belongs to Trevoh Chalobah.

However, Chalobah has been linked with a move away from the club, which could open up that number in the near future.

With his preferred numbers currently occupied, Pedro may have to consider alternative options.

According to reports, the most likely available numbers at Chelsea include 13, 16, 20, 21, 26, 28, and 29. While none of these carry the same prestige as a No. 9 or No. 10, Pedro has shown flexibility in the past and may be open to adopting a new identity at his new club.

Ultimately, while shirt numbers can carry symbolic weight, Pedro’s impact on the pitch will matter far more.

Whether he dons 23, 21, or something entirely new, Chelsea fans will be hoping he brings goals, creativity, and flair to Enzo Maresca’s evolving squad.
