Newcastle took the lead in the opening half through Nick Woltemade, who nodded in Sandro Tonali’s pinpoint cross.
In the second half, Arsenal increased the pressure and eventually found the equaliser as Mikel Merino headed home with six minutes remaining.

The victory lifted Arsenal to second place on 13 points, trailing champions Liverpool by two.
After Jarred Gillett signaled full-time at St. James’ Park, Joelinton was spotted in a verbal exchange with a member of Arteta’s coaching team, reportedly Miguel Molina.
Footage shared on social media showed the two exchanging words before Joelinton pushed Molina, who was then guided away by Arteta.
Newcastle coach Simon Weatherstone stepped in to escort Joelinton, who was later seen speaking with Arteta.
Speaking about the crucial win, Arteta said: “The belief, the conviction of the team that we are and that we can play various types of games and the team still can deliver and win it in a convincing way.
“And for me today, it’s one of the most difficult grounds. Again, praise Newcastle, the way they play, compete, how difficult it is to play in this place. But the team really took the game to a different level, and I’m very proud to see that.”
