Glen Johnson gives verdict on Chelsea’s aims for this campaign

Glen Johnson believes Chelsea won’t be satisfied with just finishing in the top four this campaign and should focus on closing the gap to Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.

The Blues currently sit third in the Premier League table, 10 points ahead of fifth-placed West Ham but 10 adrift of league leaders Manchester City.

Chelsea started the season in fine form, leading the title race ahead of Liverpool and City, but have since dropped off while Pep Guardiola’s side have seemingly ran away with it.

Last month marked a whole year since Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard with the German coach winning the Champions League in his first few months in charge.

Supporters will be hoping Tuchel can take the London club deep in the European competition once again and former Chelsea defender Johnson feels simply a top-four finish this season won’t be deemed a successful season.

‘I think he’s [Tuchel] done great,’ Johnson told Metro.co.uk in an interview courtesy of Squawka.

‘At the beginning everyone thought it was a bit harsh with Lamps getting the sack so early but I don’t think anyone can really question how Tuchel has taken over.

‘I think he’s done a great job, he’s steadied the ship, he’s won the Champions League. ‘They probably should be closer to City at the moment but I still think it’s a good season.

‘I don’t think top four [would be a success] ‘I think they need to finish second and be closer to City. I don’t think they’ll be happy if they finish fourth.

‘If they can just bridge the gap to City and go deep in the Champions League, something like that, then it’ll be another good season.’
