Chelsea may have been handed a transfer boost in their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Jose Gimenez after he conceded he ‘loves’ the club.
Frank Lampard is in the market for a new centre-back this summer window to help improve Chelsea’s leaky defence, with Declan Rice also believed to be their top target.
However, with West Ham playing hardball over any possible deal for the player and demanding a fee around £80m to sign the England international, the blues may be forced to look elsewhere.
Jose Gimenez is on Chelsea’s radar as a possible addition and he has been scouted by the club chiefs. And it seems he would be open to a move to Stamford Bridge.
Gimenez revealed he supported Chelsea as a youngster and that he wanted to play with current head coach Lampard.
While the Uruguayan would not come cheap, his public show of affection to the blues certainly strengthens their hand.
Gimenez said in an interview with La Liga: ‘I would have liked to play with Lampard. ‘I always used to watch Chelsea as a kid, loved them.’

The Atletico star mainly plays in a centre back role but has been used at right back and in defensive midfield at the club.
And It’s expected to be a busy summer at Chelsea. They have already signed Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech from Red Bull Leipzig and Ajax respectively, with a deal for Kai Havertz close to conclusion.
Ben Chilwell is wanted to strengthen Lampard’s options at the left-back position and the Chelsea boss also wants to add a centre-back and a keeper during the transfer window.
