The 28-year-old Liverpool forward, who tragically died alongside his brother André in a car accident in Spain, had been playing in the Premier League since 2018 and built considerable wealth during that time.
Jota began his top-flight career with Wolverhampton Wanderers, earning £38,000 per week, which brought in nearly £4 million over two years. ..Continue Reading
He then moved to Liverpool, where his initial contract paid him £83,000 a week, adding another £8.6 million to his earnings in the first two years.
Recognizing his impact, Liverpool extended his deal in 2022, increasing his salary to £140,000 per week—earning him over £21 million before his untimely passing.
His contract also included performance bonuses, and his 65 goals in 182 appearances contributed significantly to his overall income. Beyond football, Jota was also active in Esports and served as a global brand ambassador.
He was due to earn an additional £14.5 million over the final two years of his contract, which, while rumored to be honored by Liverpool, has not yet been officially confirmed.
Altogether, Jota’s Premier League earnings are estimated at around £34.4 million, which could now pass to his wife Rute and their children—Dinis, Duarte, and baby Mafalda.
While it’s unclear how much of his fortune had been spent, a portion was invested in a luxury five-bedroom home in Blundellsands, a prestigious area in north Liverpool.
Land registry records show the couple purchased the property in May 2022 for £2.1 million, joining a neighborhood popular with fellow footballers.
The home, previously listed for three years and once rented out, features a grand marble entrance, a brass staircase, underfloor heating, a Bose sound system, and a high-end kitchen with granite counters and Gaggenau appliances.
It also boasts a 39-foot indoor pool, jacuzzi, steam room, games room with snooker and pool tables, and an eight-seat cinema with surround sound.
Jota also established an image rights company, Minute J Ltd, in 2023 to manage his off-field income, with his father Joaquim listed as a director.
The company’s first financial report showed earnings of £186,754, with £49,786 in liabilities—most of which was owed to HMRC.
Such companies are commonly used by footballers to manage income from sponsorships, merchandise, and endorsements tied to their name and image.
In addition to his football salary, Jota had endorsement deals with Nike and EA Sports, reportedly earning him £3.3 million annually, and he founded his own Esports team, Luna Galaxy.
Portuguese media also reported that Jota owned a luxury car collection worth over £1 million, including a Range Rover Sport, Porsche 911 Turbo S, Ferrari 488, Audi Q7, and Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG.
Website, The Richest, in a detailed profile of Jota’s worth, said: ‘He left behind a financial legacy few soccer players achieve so young.
‘His business smart matched his on-field vision, he left behind a blueprint for how athletes can build wealthy and legacy beyond the pitch.’
Jota’s heartbreaking passing occurred just 13 days after he married his childhood sweetheart, Rute Cardoso.
During their wedding ceremony, Jota described himself as “the luckiest man alive” to be her husband, and touching photos and videos from the day were widely shared on social media.
Tragically, many of the same guests who celebrated their joyous union were forced to return just two weeks later to attend the funeral of Jota and his brother André.
Family, friends, and fellow footballers from around the world gathered at the 17th-century Igreja Matriz de Gondomar to say their final goodbyes.
