Jurgen Klopp hits out at ‘f*cking idiot’ Liverpool fans for ignoring COVID-19 advice

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp scolded fans ahead of the Reds’ Champions League last-16 game with Atletico Madrid after a set of supporters reached out for high-fives despite ongoing coronavirus issues.

Wednesday’s game at Anfield was played in the midst of a global outbreak with a number of football games and sporting events affected.

The decision was made this week that PSG’s game with Borussia Dortmund, the other match on Wednesday’s schedule, would be played behind closed doors without fans.

And Jurgen Klopp was not thrilled with fans near the Anfield tunnel attempting to reach out for high-fives ahead of the game against Atletico.

“Put your hands away you f*cking idiots,” Klopp said as he walked by moments before the kick-off.

Klopp has been quite vocal about the outbreak in recent weeks , although the Reds manager says questions about coronavirus should be left for medical professionals.

The coach has stated that “some things are more important than football” and that he and Liverpool will respect whatever decisions are made by government officials concerning the spread of the illness.

A couple of Champions League games have been impacted by the coronavirus, with Atalanta’s victory over Valencia played behind closed doors.

Fans have also been banned from other Champions League games including Barcelona vs Napoli and Bayern Munich vs Chelsea, while LASK will be forced to play behind closed doors against Manchester United in the Europa League.
