Roy Keane blasts Maguire for ‘rubbish’ comments amid dressing room crisis at Man Utd

Roy Keane has blasted Harry Maguire once again with his assessment of the Manchester United captain’s attempt to rally the squad.

After last Monday’s defeat to Wolves, widespread reports have claimed there are deep-rooted divisions in the United dressing room with interim manager Ralf Rangnick now battling to unify the group.

Maguire, who has come under huge criticism for his poor displays this campaign, gave an interview with the club’s website on Saturday, conceding players are ‘angry’ with recent results but says the dressing room remains united.

Former United captain Keane however took no comfort from Maguire’s comments, saying he will wait for an upturn in displays instead of listening to ‘whatever rubbish’ the United captain comes up with.

‘How many times has he said that?‘ Keane told ITV when quizzed on Maguire’s interview. ‘I wouldn’t listen to too much of what Harry has got to say.

‘I always say I’ll judge a player on what he does on the football pitch not what rubbish he comes out with about players sticking together and needing to do more.

‘I’ll judge a player on what he does on the football pitch and United aren’t doing enough. ‘Aston Villa at home, United need to turn up and find a performance but it hasn’t been happening recently.’

Maguire has done little to impress Keane this campaign with the former Republic of Ireland international calling the defender an ‘embarrassment’ after his goal for England against Albania back in November.

Maguire – who had faced serious criticism for his performances against Leicester City, Liverpool and Man City – cupped his hands to the crowd and then put his fingers in his ears – a celebration that got Keane furious.

‘He’s been a disgrace the last few months for Man United,’ Keane said at the time. ‘He thinks because he’s scored there he’s going to shut his critics up? Embarrassing.’
