Roy Keane predicts Chelsea signing will flop this season

Roy Keane thinks Pedro Neto will ‘add to the chaos’ at Chelsea and will likely struggle at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea secured a £54m transfer for the Portugal winger last week, with Neto committing to a seven-year contract with the Blues until 2031.

After a successful five years at Wolves, Neto was introduced to Chelsea supporters at Stamford Bridge on Sunday during a pre-season match against Inter Milan.

Chelsea have faced another tumultuous summer, with a managerial change following Mauricio Pochettino’s departure and nearly £200m spent on new acquisitions.

Keane anticipates that the injury-prone Neto will ‘add to the chaos’ in west London and predicts a challenging first season for him at Chelsea.

When former Arsenal and England striker Ian Wright suggested Neto might be one of the standout signings of the summer, Keane responded on The Overlap: ‘No! He’s always injured! For goodness’ sake. He’s like [Luke] Shaw.

‘He’ll add to the chaos. He’s going to add to the chaos. He will run everywhere and then spend six months on the treatment table with a hamstring injury.’

After his move to Stamford Bridge, Neto stated: ‘I feel really grateful to have joined this club.

‘I have worked really hard in my career to be here and I’m looking forward to getting on the pitch with this shirt.’

Chelsea kick off their 2024-25 season on Sunday against the reigning Premier League champions, Manchester City.

The Blues relied heavily on England’s Cole Palmer last season and have rewarded the 22-year-old with a new contract, extending his stay at the club until 2033.

‘I’m delighted to sign this new deal,’ said Palmer, who joined Chelsea last summer from Man City.

‘I achieved a lot in my first season here and hopefully I can continue to experience great things at this club, both personally and in terms of bringing success and trophies to Chelsea.’
