Christian Eriksen has confirmed that he will leave the club next month, officially departing at the end of June when his contract expires.

In his farewell appearance, Eriksen converted a penalty to seal United’s victory in a match filled with controversy.

The Danish midfielder came off the bench in the second half and was handed the chance to score in the closing minutes after Bruno Fernandes, following instructions from Ruben Amorim, allowed him to take the spot-kick for a memorable send-off.

Asked immediately after the full-time whistle if that was his last act in a Man United shirt, Eriksen told TNT Sports: “Yes, that is correct. I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell.

“I think we did it today for the fans. It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium, an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

“It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me.”

Asked what will be next for him, the Dane added: “First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team.

“Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play.”

Eriksen joined Manchester United on a free transfer in July after an impressive spell at Brentford, marking his return to football following a heart attack during an international tournament.

Over his time at the club, he made over a hundred appearances and scored several goals.

Jonny Evans also had an emotional farewell, coming on for his final appearance for United. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, he is expected to retire.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that Victor Lindelof, the Swedish defender signed during a previous managerial tenure, will also leave the club on a free transfer when his contract runs out.
