Klopp reveals the Premier League player he ‘doesn’t like’ after title-race incident

Jurgen Klopp has disclosed his aversion to a particular Premier League player.

This Sunday will mark the conclusion of Klopp’s era at Anfield, culminating with a match against Wolverhampton Wanderers at home.

Klopp’s nine years leading Liverpool have been distinguished by significant triumphs, including seven major trophies, a long-awaited league championship after three decades, and securing Liverpool’s sixth European title.

Yet, the journey wasn’t without its share of narrow defeats.

One moment that stands out for Liverpool supporters is the 2019 title chase, when Vincent Kompany’s long-distance goal against Leicester City virtually secured the title for Manchester City over Liverpool.

In that nail-biting season, City edged out Liverpool for the championship by just one point. Klopp has recently expressed that he harbors resentment towards James Maddison for not pressuring Kompany, allowing him the opportunity to take that decisive shot.

Klopp told Redmen TV: “The moment when Vincent Kompany touched the ball there, I am really happy I didn’t get a stroke in that moment as that’s how it must feel.

“I remember exactly how I was lying on the sofa watching and thinking ‘Maddison block him, close him down’.

“Since then I don’t like Maddison. I was angry with Brendan [Rodgers] that day because he should have taken him off, he was tired.

“Leicester played really good first half, after that they should have scored.

“It’s just a personal thing, I have no problem with him, but when I see him it’s… and now I saw him again last weekend.”

Klopp last came face to face with Maddison in Liverpool’s 4-2 win over Tottenham in the month of May.

The 56-year-old will leave Liverpool at the end of the season, with the club widely expected to announce Feyenoord head coach Arne Slot as his replacement imminently.
