However, the saga may be far from over, as new reports suggest Konate could be next to make the switch, once his current deal at Anfield expires next summer.
Liverpool managed to leverage their Club World Cup appearance to finalize a £10 million fee for Alexander-Arnold shortly before his contract ran out—but such a move might not be possible in Konate’s case.
With this potential transfer looming, past remarks made by Konate regarding Real Madrid have started to resurface on social media.
Back in February, speculation was swirling that Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain were both eyeing Konate as a summer signing.
That same month, the centre-back shared his thoughts in an interview with French publication Telefoot, discussing his season and offering insight into his openness toward joining either Madrid or PSG.
Asked about the links, he said: “To hear big clubs like that are showing interest in me is very flattering!
“Now I’m focusing on this season, giving it my all and I’ll let my agents take care of the rest.”
Konaté made the switch to Liverpool from German side RB Leipzig in July 2021, with the transfer reportedly costing £36 million.
Since arriving at Anfield, he’s become a vital figure in the team, racking up 132 appearances for the club across all competitions.
Should Konaté depart—especially on a free transfer—it would represent a significant setback for Arne Slot’s squad.
To cushion the impact, Liverpool are reportedly weighing up a move for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, who is also entering the final year of his contract.
