La Liga chief confirms Antoine Griezmann’s move to Barcelona could be cancelled

Antoine Griezmann’s transfer move to Barcelona could be blocked in a row over the fee, La Liga president Javier Tebas claims.

Atletico Madrid complained after Barcelona announced they had signed the France international forward, after activating his 120m euro (£107m) release clause on 12 July.

The release clause dropped from 200m to 120m euros on 1 July, but Atletico Madrid claim the deal was done before then and that they are definitely due the larger amount for Griezmann’s transfer.

“It is possible to block a player’s transfer,” Tebas toldOnda Cero.

“La Liga will have to decide what course of action to take.”

Antoine Griezmann has already played a friendly match for his new team – a 2-1 friendly loss to Chelsea in Japan.

Tebas said: “[Atletico] submitted a complaint and put in doubt whether we should pass Griezmann’s licence to Barcelona.

“There is a mechanism that has been put in place and it will be the organisations that must resolve the situation. We don’t have the element of judgement.”

Atletico had reported Barcelona to Fifa over an alleged illegal approach for Griezmann in December 2017.

The player rejected an offer from Barcelona last summer window. But Atletico claim the La Liga giants talked to him again in March and accused Barca of disrespect.
