Leny Yoro was reportedly set to make his season debut for Manchester United’s Under-21s against Altrincham on Tuesday evening.
The French defender, who joined the club from Lille in the summer for £59 million, had been sidelined since pre-season due to a fractured metatarsal sustained during a friendly against Arsenal in Los Angeles on July 26. ..Continue Reading
After recovering, Yoro trained consistently during the November international break and was among the first players to meet new head coach Ruben Amorim at Carrington.
According to the Manchester Evening News, Yoro was informed on Monday that he would start in the Under-21s’ 4-0 National League Cup victory at Altrincham.
However, it’s reported that Amorim decided to remove him from the squad after assessing his performance in training.
In a video released by United, Yoro was seen participating in a training match, playing on the right of a back three alongside Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw.
This setup aligns with Amorim’s plans to implement a 3-4-3 formation, with Yoro expected to play a significant role in the system.
The 19-year-old could potentially make his first-team debut this Sunday against Ipswich Town at Portman Road, although Amorim is likely to approach his return cautiously.
The team is facing a defensive crisis, with Harry Maguire sidelined for seven weeks due to a calf injury sustained in October and unlikely to feature against Ipswich.
Victor Lindelof’s participation is also uncertain after he was forced off while playing for Sweden during the international break. Lisandro Martinez, who withdrew from Argentina’s squad with a back injury, is another doubt.
Meanwhile, Tyrell Malacia, who recently appeared for the Under-21s in an EFL Trophy match against Huddersfield Town, is close to regaining full fitness and could return to the senior squad soon.
Luke Shaw has also resumed full training and brings experience in both the left-centre-back and left-wing-back roles within a 3-4-3 system.
