Lisandro Martinez names the best player he has ever played with

Lisandro Martinez of Manchester United has weighed in on the ongoing Cristiano Ronaldo vs. Lionel Messi GOAT debate, naming his pick for the best teammate he’s played with.

Martinez has faced a challenging start to the season at the club level, with United currently placed 14th in the Premier League. He was even benched for their 0-0 draw against Aston Villa on October 6.

However, his international career has been far more successful. Martinez was part of Argentina’s squad that won the 2022 World Cup and the 2024 Copa America…Continue Reading

Martinez has a strong bond with Messi, having shared the locker room with him and achieving success together.

Although he also played alongside Ronaldo briefly at Manchester United—making 16 appearances with him before Ronaldo’s departure to Al Nassr in November 2022—Martinez ultimately chose Messi as the best player he has teamed up with.

His United teammates Casemiro, Luke Shaw, and Amad Diallo also participated in the discussion.

“[The] best player I’ve played with, I would say Lionel Messi,” Martinez told JD Football.

“Why? Because he’s the best player in the history of football and I’m playing with him in the national team.

“I saw things that I have never saw in another player…I think it’s [he’s] the best player.”

Martinez’s choice appears reasonable, given his strong connection with Messi, but it’s evident that Ronaldo holds the defender in high regard as well.

During his controversial interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored after leaving Manchester United, Ronaldo mentioned Martinez as one of the players he respected.

“In Manchester United, I can mention [Diogo] Dalot,” Ronaldo said.

“He’s young, but very professional, but I don’t doubt that he’s going to have longevity in football because he’s young, he’s smart, intelligent, and he’s very professional.

“Probably [Lisandro] Martinez. Casemiro is in his 30s, but I will say Dalot.”

“He’s very calm, more than anything he’s enjoying the day-to-day,” Martinez explained.

“When one is here, one is very happy. We feel at home, which is important. We don’t see it [as his last tournament with Argentina.]

“We see him happy, and with an impressive level. That’s what I can tell you,” he added.
