Liverpool have begun talks over a summer transfer for Sporting midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to reports.
The 23-year-old has been one of the club’s most important players this season, scoring 13 goals and registering 18 assists in all competitions this season.
Fernandes already has four caps for Portugal and his performances this campaign have put him in contention to secure a place in Portugal’s squad for the World Cup this summer.
Liverpool, however, are looking to add to their midfield options having already agreed a deal to sign Naby Keita this summer.
According to O Jogo, Liverpool have been monitoring Fernandes this season and have been impressed with his performances.
The report claims that Liverpool have now met with his representatives to discuss a possible transfer to England this summer.
Fernandes is playing his first season at Sporting having signed from Sampdoria in a £7m deal.
Liverpool could be forced to pay a much higher fee as the midfielder has a £87m release clause in his contract with Sporting.
